Welcome to The Bear, a brand new website designed to provide colourful and comprehensive coverage of Warwickshire County Cricket Club's Men's, Women's and Age-Group teams throughout the 2026 season. 

Behind The Bear are three journalists - Brian Halford, Paul Edwards and Aaron Viles - with a passion for county cricket and a desire to fill the void created by the retreat of regional newspapers from the county game.

The trio are committed to providing consistent, lively and in-depth coverage of life at Edgbaston, while also embracing the clubs that have long been the lifeblood of cricket in Warwickshire and the West Midlands.

Brian Halford has covered Warwickshire since 2000, including 15 years following them home and away as cricket correspondent of the Birmingham Post & Mail. He will be mobilising his many contacts from Edgbaston, both current personnel and from back over the years, to deliver exclusive interviews for readers of The Bear.

Paul Edwards is widely considered to be amongst the best cricket-writers in the country. His elegant style brilliantly captures the charms and idiosyncrasies of the unique world of county cricket. Paul is among the most original thinkers in cricket journalism and his skills are now here for readers of The Bear to savour. 

Aaron Viles is a familiar voice and face at Edgbaston as a presenter and commentator on the Bears' in white-ball cricket. His close connections with the club game across the region will bring another great dimension to The Bear with regular in-depth features on clubs around our patch. 

The mission for The Bear team is to supply informative, entertaining and topical content on all aspects of life at Edgbaston for Bears fans to enjoy.

Working with the club, the aim is to be supportive - not tame, but positive - as we follow all of the Bears teams throughout the 2026 season.
