A world record...and sausage, chips and beans: Rikki Clarke recalls Aigburth 2011

"The thing I remember most about that day was the lunch. It was sausage, chips and beans with bread and butter, followed by apple pie and custard. It was amazing."

On August 3, 2011, spectators turned up for the third day of the County Championship match between Lancashire and Warwickshire at Aigburth expecting a good day’s cricket.

Both teams were in the running for the title and the game was nicely poised. After the home side was all out for 189 (Neil Carter six for 30) on the first day, the Bears replied with 280 (Chris Woakes 60, Jim Troughton 49). Lancashire then started solidly second time round and would resume on the third morning on 32 without loss.

The match was intriguingly poised…and it continued to deliver. The third day was another good one, adorned by the little matter of a joint world record.
