Delightful Rugby School adds to the joy that outgrounds bring to county cricket

There was some excellent cricket, much of it from the Bears, led by captain Rob Yates who followed a brilliant catch with a wonderful century. It was a lovely, sunny day and the win, essential to maintain the Bears' aspirations of reaching the competition’s knockout stage, was for the vast majority of spectators the icing on the cake.   But never mind the icing...what a cake!  

Professional cricket, and most sports, have entered an era in which the international game is often presented by the media and, sadly, by some people within the sport, as the be-all-and-end-all. In cricket, the Ashes in particular has become a matter of obsession. How ridiculous it is to hear or read comments directed towards an Ashes series which is sometimes two years down the line. Ridiculous and also insulting to the countries that England are playing at the time.
