Once a Bear, Always a Bear - Nick Warren

"To have started in the Warwickshire system as a kid, progressed all the way through it, earned a contract and eventually walked onto Edgbaston as a Warwickshire first-team player is something I’m incredibly proud of now."

Our very welcome guest on Once a Bear, Always a Bear this week is Nick Warren. Born in Moseley, Nick came through the Bears' system as a talented seam-bowler before serving as a professional from 2002 to 2005. He played five games for England Under 19s and 15 across the formats for Warwickshire before carving out a new life in Sydney, Australia.

Nick, thanks so much for joining us from over there in Oz - what are your earliest memories of cricket, either playing or watching the game?

I’m not actually sure why Mum first took me down to Edgbaston, but my earliest proper memories are the Sunday morning sessions at the old indoor school with Alan Townsend. I’d have been about nine or ten, I think - and a certain Ian James Westwood was there as well! Alan was genuinely one of the greats. We were fortunate enough to get to know him properly over the years at Moseley too, and even now I can remember the way he coached us and some of the things he taught us.
