Once a Bear, Always a Bear - Darren Maddy

I could never understand those who were looking for the next rain break. I loved playing cricket every day and to have lived the life I dreamed of as a kid makes me feel very proud and very lucky.

This week's very welcome guest on Once a Bear, Always a Bear is Darren Maddy. Darren joined Warwickshire from Leicestershire in 2007 and went on to play 197 matches across the formats for the Bears. He was part of the team that lifted the Clydesdale Bank Trophy at Lord's in 2010 and a big contributor to the 2012 County Championship title triumph.

Darren, many thanks for joining us. What are your earliest memories of cricket, either playing or watching the game?

I grew up in a cricketing family and even as a baby I was always around Leicester Banks Cricket Club. My dad and grandad were mad-keen cricketers and mum used to make the teas. My dad played Saturdays, Sundays and midweek so all of my childhood was spent around cricket. When I think about it now, I can still smell the fresh cut of the grass, the damp wooden pavilion and the sound of the spikes on the concrete steps. They were great days.
