The 2026 Rugby Festival, during which Warwickshire played three Metro Bank One-Day Cup matches at Rugby School, was a great success.
Well-attended, well-organised and sun-blessed, it was thoroughly enjoyed by players and spectators alike. And the Bears won three out of three! The lovely vibe around the venue underlined the value and joy of outgrounds in county cricket.
Hopefully, in the relatively near future, championship cricket will reach Rugby…and, who knows, perhaps one day it will return to Leamington Spa?
Leamington’s pretty Arlington Avenue ground hosted four championship games before the First World War. Brian Halford reports on the first of them, Hampshire’s visit in 1905 when first-class cricket arrived in Leamington Spa.
