I absolutely adore the vibrant layers of folklore associated with county cricket.

Whether it’s learning about Alfred ‘Tich’ Freeman’s mind-blowing 304 County Championship wickets in the summer of 1928, Sir Garfield Sobers’ spectacular six sixes in an over against Glamorgan at St Helen’s in 1968 or a certain Brian Charles Lara’s re-writing of the record books with his unforgettable 501* Durham at Edgbaston in 1994, there’s something borderline mythical about the individuals who have shaped and, indeed, continue to shape our beloved game over the years, even if you’ve never had the pleasure of witnessing their greatness with your own eyes.
