A cast of stunning quality assembled for the County Championship match between Worcestershire and Warwickshire at New Road in June 1976. It was an era when county cricket was so strong that, at times it replicated Test cricket - or sometimes exceeded it as several Test-playing countries, notably India, were then so weak. The Pears v Bears Championship derby of '76, the first at New Road since the club bought the ground from the cathedral for £30,000, was such a match.
