Kai Smith is a "great asset" to the Bears, says Dougie Brown

“I almost lost my job on the back of it because they thought I was disrespecting the nation by playing a 13-year-old against a full associate side, but he batted at number seven and got some great experience. I didn’t lose my job and Kai continued to develop."

Warwickshire legend Dougie Brown believes young wicketkeeper/batter Kai Smith has the skills and temperament to ‘really flourish’ for the Bears in the years ahead.

Smith was left out of the Bears team for the current game against Essex when Alex Davies was passed fit to keep wicket following a finger injury. That was a tough call for the 21-year-old who had made important contributions with the bat in each of the first two Championship matches of the season.
