Hamza Shaikh staked the most emphatic claim for a first-team recall with a high-class 162 to power Warwickshire 2nd XI towards an innings-and-95-runs win over Middlesex at Richmond.
With former skipper Alex Davies experiencing a dip in form at the top of the first-team batting order, Shaikh’s knock gives the Bears selectors some serious food for thought as they consider the team for the Championship match against Somerset at Taunton tomorrow.
Shaikh’s 162 from 206 balls came in the Bears’ total of 472. After Vaansh Jani launched the innings with a stylish 54, Shaikh and Arjun Nahal (126, 185 balls) took heavy toll of a home attack including former Bears bowler Henry Brookes in a stand of 299 in 62 overs.
