Warwickshire will prepare for the final week of their County Championship season in pole position to claim the title after their Division One counterparts failed to match the Bears’ victory in the penultimate round of fixtures.
The Bears, for the second week in a row, wrapped up a First Class victory in just two days when they swept aside Essex by eight wickets at Chelmsford and then watched on as both Somerset and Nottinghamshire fell to defeat.
Somerset, who have famously never won the County Championship title in their entire history, were in a position of strength at Headingley when they had reduced Yorkshire to 54/6 in the second innings and led by only 65.
